Voluntary Assisted Return and Reintegration Programme - VARRP What is VARRP?
IOM offers assistance for asylum seekers who want to return permanently to their country of origin. The VARRP is open to asylum seekers of any nationality, whose asylum claim is under one of the following criteria:
- Waiting for a decision from Border and Immigration Agency (previously known as the Immigration and Nationality Directorate of the Home Office)
- Refused by the Border and Immigration Agency (previously known as the Immigration and Nationality Directorate of the Home Office)
- Appealing against the asylum decision
- Given ELR (Exceptional Leave to Remain)
How does the VARRP work?
First, you fill in the application form, sign a declaration for voluntary return, give IOM a copy of your Border and Immigration Agency (previously known as the Immigration and Nationality Directorate of the Home Office) document. When we receive your application, we send the details to the Border and Immigration Agency (previously known as the Immigration and Nationality Directorate of the Home Office) and inform them that you have applied to return under the Voluntary Assisted Return and Reintegration Programme.
How long will it take?
IOM always aims to meet the needs of returnees and to find the most appropriate way of return. The time frame for the return will depend on various factors such as Border and Immigration Agency (previously known as the Immigration and Nationality Directorate of the Home Office) approval, obtaining travel documents, availability of commercial flights, and any special needs to be taken into consideration for the return travel.
